The Orange Route- Aeolian Islands

Trip Duration 1-2 Weeks starting from Portorosa or Milazzo.

Lipari is the largest among the seven islands of the archipelago with its 40 squared kilometres of extension. It is easily recognized thanks to the “Monte Pelato” covered with the characteristic pumice stone and the white and fine sand of its beaches.
Vulcano is only 12 miles far from the North coast of Sicily and separated from Lipari by a channel wide only ½ mile. The Island is characterised by the sulphuric emissions of the Vulcan and the presence of ponds of thermal mud widely used for a variety of health and beauty treatments.
Panarea is very famous for the nightlife in the small village of tiny white houses.
The island is the remaining part of a Vulcan that was partly destroyed during an explosion thousands of years ago. It is surrounded by many other small islands and rocks such as Lisca Bianca, Lisca Nera and Le Formiche offering different choices for a relaxing swim without going too far from the Village.
Stromboli is about 20 miles far from Lipari and it is the most suggestive island with its active Vulcan. During every night it is possible to sail around the island to admire the volcanic eruption from the North side of the isle. The beaches are made of very fine black sand making this place completely unique among the seven islands.
Salina is covered with green plant life and is famous for its cappers plants and the Malvasia Wine. From the West side it is possible to see Filicudi and Alicudi that are the most detached islands of the archipelago. Very few houses and a typical volcanic shape make them a place left far behind in the time

After 85 miles sailing we reach the isle of Lampedusa, just 120 miles far from the shores of Africa.
Amazing precipices characterize the north coast while the south side of the island has many little bays and incredible beaches. The “Isola dei Conigli” beach is located in front of the homonymous little island. It has been designated as a natural reserve, since it is one of the very few places left in the Med where it is still possible to observe the turtles “Caretta Caretta” depositing their eggs, under the white sand.
Sailing for another 25 miles will take us to Linosa, a volcanic island with an incredible morphology.
The isle is rich of very peculiar vegetation and its landscapes, its people and the amazing sea are difficult to forget.
Pantelleria is another pearl in the Mediterranean Sea, only 70 miles far from the Tunisian shore. It is a triumph of nature where the sea and the shore meet themselves around the green hearth of the island: the Natural Park of “Montagna Grande”.
The ancient Arabic travellers called the island of Pantelleria with the name of Bent el Riah, Daughter of the Wind, for the constant winds blowing around the island offering therefore the “perfect environment” for a proper sailing trip.
